                                                         REALITY THAT DOES NOT EXIST?

Born in the USSR and later become one of the chernobyl children, living in the times of the biggest change of the country ever…this is not the dream you dreamed of. But it was the reality of many people in Ukraine at that point. We did not know any better and we did not know how bad it actually was. I remember it as a happy childhood. But comparing to the life of my grandparents maybe it was not so bad after all – they were sent to Siberia by Soviet Government, at a young age!

Then school, gymnasium and university. In 2006 I moved to Denmark as a student. It was exciting and very strange to live between strangers so far away from Ukraine and my family. But it was my decision and my reality at that moment. I was a survivor! And perhaps that is what my paintings really are all about. My life has been built and formed by the contrasts of living in Denmark and growing up in the countryside of Ukraine. Missing my family, feeling lonely while building a totally new world for myself to fit in. Sometimes it feels like I am 100 years old!

My happiest times in life started when I moved to Copenhagen in 2014 and I decided to live my dream. Denmark became my new home. With my own family. I was not a stranger anymore.

Then I became Solodka, and Solodka's art is a figurative art, tronie portraits, philosophy and symbolism. A connection between the inside and outside world. Inspired by life and art. My first painting series were named "Bubble Girl": Surrealistic portraits of girls who dare to dream and are open to this complicated world, by their big eyes.

Now in Solodka's artwork you will find the philosophy of existence, reality and fiction. All hiding behind the symbolism, but in a more mature way. Like a time machine or a bottle in the sea that brings you the message that only you can see. Paintings about life. Paintings that everyone can relate to. Paintings that tell stories that maybe never have happened? Or maybe they did? There is so much going on around us in our daily lives. All the craziness that life brings us sometimes makes us forget to live it. We are prisoners of our own body and thoughts. The planet - that desperately wants to be free in its own existence, with the denying of its own limitations. We bring the beauty and the ugliness into this world through our actions. And who knows what will be next?!
